Internal medicine
house calls in Quito
For adults with several conditions at once, many medications, or symptoms that don't fit a single organ. The first visit lasts about an hour and ends with one plan.
Care is provided in Spanish only. This English page is so you can read how the service works; the visit itself is not in English.
We confirm the time based on the doctor's availability. If she has an opening the same day, it's booked.

Internal medicine consultation
$60
At home, or in clinic if you ask. Doesn't include tests or treatments.
What internal medicine is
The adult specialty
It diagnoses and treats, without surgery, conditions of the internal organs and systems, especially when there are several at once.
When nothing fits a single organ
Or when the treatment for one condition clashes with the treatment for another.
One plan for everything
It checks whether your medications interfere with each other and whether you still need all of them.
Reviews everything you have
Tests, reports and previous prescriptions. Keep them at hand for the visit.
One-hour first visit
Approximately. There's time to review the whole picture, not just today's complaint.
At home, by appointment
Also in clinic if you ask. Same day if there's availability.
It doesn't replace the general practitioner. The GP is the first contact: assesses you, handles common problems and says when a deeper look is needed. Internal medicine comes in when the picture is already complex.
When it helps, and when it doesn't
It helps if…
- You have two or more chronic conditions, each being treated separately.
- You take several medications and it's unclear whether they interfere or whether you still need them all.
- You've had tiredness, fever, weight loss or abnormal lab results for weeks, with no clear cause.
- A general practitioner has already seen you and thinks your case needs a deeper look.
- You've just left the hospital and the plan at home needs to be put in order.
What this consultation doesn't do
- It's not for severe chest pain, sudden shortness of breath or a person who doesn't respond. That's an emergency: call 911.
- It doesn't replace a cardiologist, nephrologist or surgeon when the problem is already limited to one organ and needs that procedure.
How it works with general medicine
The general practitioner
- Handles today's complaint.
- Leaves the immediate plan.
- Spots whether the case ends there or needs internal medicine.
The Internal Medicine resident
- Reviews the whole picture: conditions, medications and tests.
- Takes the patient's real goal into account.
- Leaves one plan, not several separate prescriptions.
When not to wait for the appointment: call 911
- Severe chest pain
- Sudden shortness of breath
- A person who doesn't respond or is suddenly very confused
- Weakness or numbness on one side of the body, a drooping face or trouble speaking
- Vomiting blood, or black, coffee-like stools
- Fainting
The internal medicine consultation is by appointment and is not an emergency service. If you need a doctor sooner, CrabCare's general home medical visit is available 24 hours a day. That doesn't replace 911 in an emergency.

Is the doctor an internist?
