Cardiologist house calls in Quito, with tests at home

A Cardiology specialist assesses you at home. The ECG, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring and echocardiogram are also done at home.

Care is provided in Spanish only. This English page is so you can read how the service works; the visit itself is not in English.

We confirm the time based on the doctor's availability. If she has an opening the same day, it's booked.

Cardiology house call

$60

Tests are extra: ECG $45, 24-hour blood pressure $80, echocardiogram $150.

How cardiology at home works

The specialist comes to you

Cardiology studies, diagnoses and treats diseases of the heart and circulation. The doctor is a cardiologist: she assesses adults with hard-to-control blood pressure, palpitations, a heart murmur, shortness of breath on exertion, leg swelling or a history of heart disease.

Tests at home too

CrabCare staff do the ECG, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring and echocardiogram at your home. The cardiologist writes the report.

Pre-surgery assessment

Cardiac assessment before surgery, all at your home.

Adults only

The consultation is for adults.

By appointment, same day if there's room

We confirm the day and time on WhatsApp.

Not an emergency service

Severe chest pain doesn't wait for an appointment: call 911.

It doesn't replace the general practitioner. The GP handles today's complaint and orders the first step. Cardiology comes in when that picture needs a heart specialist or one of these tests.

Consultation and tests at home

CrabCare staff do the tests at your home and the cardiologist writes the report.

  • Cardiology consultation

    $60

Assessment at home by the specialist. Doesn't include tests or treatments.

  • Electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG)

    $45

Records the heart's electrical activity at that moment: the rhythm, some blocks and signs of an enlarged heart or a previous heart attack. It's quick and painless. It doesn't show the valves or how well the heart pumps, and a normal ECG doesn't rule out all heart disease. Report the same day.

  • 24-hour blood pressure monitoring (ABPM)

    $80

Measures your blood pressure for 24 hours, in real life, day and night. Hypertension guidelines use it to confirm the diagnosis, to see whether high readings happen only at the doctor's (white-coat) or outside it with normal readings in clinic (masked), and whether pressure drops during sleep. It doesn't assess the heart muscle or valves. Report the same day the monitor is removed.

  • Echocardiogram

    $150

An ultrasound of the heart. It shows the size of the chambers, the thickness of the walls, how well the muscle pumps, the state of the valves and whether there's fluid around the heart. No radiation. It doesn't replace a cardiac catheterization: it can't "see" whether a coronary artery is blocked. Report within 24 hours.

If you have chest pain right now, don't wait for an ECG at home: call 911.

When it helps, and when it doesn't

It helps if…

  • Your blood pressure is high on some readings and normal on others, or doesn't come down with treatment.
  • You have palpitations, dizziness or a fainting episode that needs to be looked into.
  • You get short of breath walking, your legs swell, or you've been told your heart doesn't pump well.
  • You were told you have a heart murmur or an abnormal ECG.
  • You've just left the hospital for a heart problem and the plan at home needs to be put in order.
  • You're having surgery and need a cardiac assessment beforehand.

What this consultation doesn't do

  • Severe chest pain that spreads to the arm or neck, with sweating or sudden shortness of breath, doesn't wait for an appointment. That's an emergency: call 911.
  • Cardiac catheterization, heart surgery and contrast studies of the coronary arteries aren't done at home.

When not to wait for the appointment: call 911

  • Severe chest pain that spreads to the arm, neck or jaw, with sweating or nausea
  • Sudden shortness of breath, or you can't breathe lying down
  • Fainting with chest pain or palpitations
  • Very fast palpitations with severe dizziness or feeling about to faint
  • Weakness or numbness on one side of the body, a drooping face or trouble speaking
  • Very high blood pressure with a severe headache, blurred vision or confusion

The cardiology consultation is by appointment and is not an emergency service. If you need a doctor sooner, CrabCare's general home medical visit is available 24 hours a day. That doesn't replace 911 in an emergency.
