Family medicine and older adult care in Cuenca

A family medicine specialist with an MSc in Gerontology assesses older adults at home or in clinic: their conditions, medications, mobility, eating, sleep, mood and memory.

Care is provided in Spanish only. This English page is so you can read how the service works; the visit itself is not in English.

We confirm the time based on the doctor's availability and that she can reach your area.

Medical content reviewed by Dr. Jefferson Astudillo Peña, general physician (SENESCYT registration 1008-2023-2705888). Last reviewed: September 2026.

Consultation

$60

At home or in clinic, by appointment. Doesn't include tests or treatments.

How the visit works

Family medicine

It looks at the whole person in their setting, not a single symptom, and follows up over time.

Focus on older adults

The doctor holds an MSc in Gerontology, the study of aging and how to care for it.

Medication review

Whether there are too many, whether they interfere with each other, or whether one is no longer needed.

Mobility and falls

Balance, strength and what in the home raises the risk of falling.

At home or in clinic, with the family

Family members or the caregiver can be there and ask questions: they're part of the plan too.

Not an emergency service

If a life is at risk, call 911. Don't wait for an appointment.

Have the list of medications with their doses and any recent tests or reports at hand.

What the assessment covers

Health

  • Chronic conditions and how well they're controlled
  • Medications and doses
  • Tests and reports you have

Function

  • Mobility, balance and falls
  • Daily activities: bathing, dressing, eating

Memory and mood

  • Forgetfulness or changes in behavior
  • Mood and sleep

Setting

  • Eating and weight
  • Support from family and the caregiver

When it helps

  • Several conditions or many medications.
  • A recent fall, or fear of falling.
  • More forgetful, sadder or sleeping badly.
  • Eating little or losing weight.
  • Just out of the hospital.
  • Hard to leave home for a doctor's visit.
  • The family wants a clear plan for care at home.

When not to wait for the appointment: call 911

  • Sudden chest pain or shortness of breath
  • Weakness or numbness on one side of the body, a drooping face or trouble speaking
  • Confusion or drowsiness that comes on suddenly
  • A fall with a blow to the head, or can't get up
  • Fever with severe weakness, or not eating or drinking

The visit is by appointment and is not an emergency service. If you need a doctor sooner, CrabCare's general home medical visit is available 24 hours a day. That doesn't replace 911 in an emergency.
